25 Home Ideas With Columns
Support columns or pillars can be the bane of every home owner’s design dream and unfortunately, load-bearing pillars cannot be moved, period. However, some clever design strategies can make them a welcome part of the space.
One approach to dealing with pillars is to make them stand out tastefully the way you would with a feature wall. For example, you could dress them up with grey cobblestone if you have an all-white room palette, or go the way of classical columns juxtaposed against a transitional-style room. You could also draw attention to the pillars by utilizing the blank space on them to hang art or carve a nook to yield a display shelf.
Another approach is to have your pillars blend in as much as possible with the rest of the space. This could mean keeping their color identical to the walls or using the same wallpaper found in other parts of the room. Alternatively, you could ‘hide’ the pillar by incorporating it into another design feature, such as a multi-column room divider, a media wall or cabinetry around a kitchen island.
